The example below should be used for example purposes only. Each individual Westie should have a treatment program tailored especially for that Westie depending on the severity of the Malassezia and the Westie’s overall condition of health:

Minnie - November 2002

Minnie (Severe)

  • Otomax twice daily in each ear for 2 weeks
  • Neobacimyx Ointment twice daily for two weeks in each eye along with saline drops four times a day in each eye
  • Gent-L-Clense in each ear once a day for 7days
  • Cephalexin 250mg three times daily for 60-90days
  • Ketoconazole 200mg 1/2 tablet twice a day for 60-90days
  • Bath every other day in Alerseb T shampoo on alternating days
  • bathe in Cortisoothe shampoo, also extra bath every afternoon (if itchy) in Oatmeal bath for 30-60 days depending on how well skin responds
  • Oatmeal Spray when needed
  • Gold Bond Medicated Powder when needed
  • Recheck with vet at 2 weeks, blood work and reweigh
  • Malaseb ear flush once a day after bath
  • Saline drops four times a day in each eye
  • Revisit with vet at one month mark for recheck, weight and any blood work
  • Eukenuba F/P, free feed
