Adam Adam

April 2004: We came upon Adam at a local shelter. Not only was this poor little guy losing all his fur but his feet were so bloody and raw that we knew we had to get him off that cold cement floor as soon as possibly. Before he even saw his foster home he was at the vet. His ears were so badly infected that we had to have him anestesized just so we could thoroughly clean them out. They were very painful. He left the vet with more medicine then any pooch should have to have. We also had a sample taken of his skin to be biopsied. After about 4 days in his foster home his feet seemed a bit better and he started moving about. His biopsy results came back as demodex mange. Before we could even start his mange treatment his feet got worse again. We brought him back to the vet and had another biopsy taken and it confirmed demodex so we have started ivemectin treatment. It's been four days since the start of his treatment and he is up and about once again. We are hoping he is on his way to a full recovery now but only time will tell. We still have no hair regrowth but we are hopeful that the shampoo's he gets daily will soon help with that as well. We are still awaiting his culture results to rule out the possibility of Malassezia Dermatitis.

Adam is such a sweet boy. He loves to snuggle with his foster mom and he is very generous with his kisses. He has just started running around and playing with his toys, something we are very glad to see. If love alone could fix him, he would already be cured. We all adore him so. It is our sincere hope that we can figure out the underlying cause of his fur loss and correct it so that he can go on with the happy, pain free, itch free, odor free life he was meant to live. We will make sure he gets all the love and attention he deserves. I wish I had a better picture of him for the site but for now this one will have to do. We will update on his progress in a couple of weeks.

Thank you again.

Best Regards,
Sandy Keckeisen
